The right picture frame compliments the work and enhances your viewing pleasure. So we embark on a quest together. All your wishes are discussed: what best suits the work itself and what is the best match for your personal style and possibly your interior? Colours, styles, ornaments, effects...we make everything by hand, so anything is possible.
Fortunately, we have a wide collection of showroom models to help you arrive at the right choice. So you go out the door with a satisfied smile, and we can get to work straightaway!

PRODUCTION
2: production
In the atelier, we cut, assemble, glue and mitre profiles from plain, untreated wood. The wood we work with is Ayous (also called ‘Abachi’), which is a common and fast-growing type of wood from Africa.
If you have chosen a picture frame with ornamental detailing, we draw the designs on the profile and go to work with gouges and chisels. Or we model the ornament on the frame using a traditional plaster mix (chalk, glue, resin and oil). Beautiful, authentic and handcrafted.

THE FINISH
3: the finish
The range of finishing options is almost infinite. We colour the picture frame with pigments, varnishes, various shades of yellow and white gold, patina stain and other ingredients, or we add inlays such as tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, shagreen or veneer.
Gilding is something we do almost daily at BOSELIE van BOEKEL. Gilding is a craft in itself and requires years of practice. The picture frame is coated with a special primer first. Then, in a draught-free room, small sheets of 6 to 24 carat gold leaf are applied one by one. After drying, the whole surface is polished, giving it that characteristic, beautiful deep shine.
